PostSubject: 25,000 candidates seat for 2014/2015 UTME screening test in Yabatech   2014-09-06, 00:43

Lagos - No fewer than 25,000 candidates on Friday sat for post UTME pen and pencil screening exercise for the 2014/2015 academic session at Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech)

The exercise which started on Friday would end on Saturday at the 24 centres located in the institution.

NAN correspondent, who monitored the exercise, reports that candidates in their thousands besieged the institution as early as 6:am.

Businessmen and women seize the opportunity to displayed their goods and wares along the roadside which contributed to vehicular and human traffic around the institution.

A candidate, Miss Rihanat Olatedun who spoke, expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the test.

Olatedun urged the management of the institution to adopt the computer mode of examination as being done by JAMB.

“I want universities and polytechnics to change their strategy of examination, the pen and pencil mode is too stressful,” she said.

Another candidate, Miss Oluwatosin Jaiyesimi, said that the exercise was not properly arranged adding that the institution should extend the period of the test to five days instead of jus two days.

“The examination is not well planned, everywhere is congested, students are running in different directions to locate their centres.

“The management should adopt computer mode because it is easy and also extend the period of the test, the crowd is too much,” she said.

The registrar, Mrs Biekoroma Amapakobo said that the examination was for candidates who scored 150 and above in the 2014 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Unified Matriculation Tertiary Examination.

Amapakobo advised the candidates to come early with their writing materials.

She said that the management displayed road signs and directions to various centres for easy location by the candidates
