The Punjab police has arrested two Nigerian nationals from Delhi for allegedly supplying drugs in the state.

Austin and Edeh were arrested from Vikaspuri in New Delhi, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Ludhiana, Virinder Singh Hayer said today.

He said the two Nigerians were arrested on the basis of details revealed during interrogation by a man named Balbir Singh, who had been arrested on May 4, for allegedly supplying heroin.

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana (Rural) police on Wednesday arrested two Nigerian drug peddlers after two kg of heroin was seized from places identified by them. The accused were identified as 37-year-\old Celestin Ikwerta and 33-year-old Edeh Sunday Chukwudi, both presently living in Vikapuri area of New Delhi, who owned spare parts export and import business.

Giving details, deputy inspector general (DIG) Ludhiana Range Yurinder Singh Hayer and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ludhiana (Rural) Surjeet Singh said that after heroin was seized from accused Balvir Singh and he was booked under NDPS Act at Sidhwan Bet Police station, during investigation it came to light that two Nigerian citizens were suppliers of drugs and also ran a network in Punjab. They added that on this disclosure the SSP sent a special team headed by SHO Dakha Police Station Lakhbir Singh to Delhi.

"The team nabbed both Nigerian citizens from New Delhi today and brought them to Jagraon. During interrogation they made alarming disclosures that a packet of 1 kg heroin is buried in a deserted place near a brick kiln at Chowkiman and another packet of equal qantity of heroin was buried near the abandoned railway platform of Mullanpur, both of which were recovered. They further disclosed that the drugs are supplied to them from across the border and are delivered as per the instructions received from their mastermind," said the DIG. "During investigation it was revealed that Celestin Ikwerta came to India five years back on a business visa and married an Indian woman from Manipur. The accused used their exim business as a facade. A Honda Civic car was also recovered from them which was used for smuggling." He added that a case FIR No. 129 and 130 dated 17.05.2017 under Section 21-61- 85 of NDPS Act was registered against them at Dakha Police Station.

Police officers said that after arresting drug peddlers and retail sellers police identified the supply chain and is now reaching the kingpins delivering bigger consignments and studying the masterminds behind them. They added that further investigation is going on and they are expecting more recoveries on the disclosures of the accused persons.
